Percettiva · Sound as Storytelling 2026 · Masterclass 1
Two professionals who helped shape the history of cinema — in an intensive two-day masterclass on sound as a decisive tool of direction, narrative and production quality. Designed for those who make creative decisions on set or in development — directors, filmmakers, producers and screenwriters who want to understand how sound can become an active ally of storytelling, not a technical problem to delegate in post.
The instructors
For decades they shared the set with Tarantino, Scorsese, Altman — working alongside them. They bring to the room not only decades of experience: they bring the living memory of how the greatest films were truly made.
Production sound mixer. Won the Academy Award for Titanic — the most awarded film in cinema history. Nominated three more times for Inglourious Basterds, Ad Astra and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Collaborated with Quentin Tarantino for 28 consecutive years. Most recent work: Killers of the Flower Moon (Scorsese, 2023).
One of the first female boom operators in Hollywood. Has worked on over 80 films and TV series with Robert Altman, James Gray, Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese. Author of the bestseller Behind the Sound Cart: A Veteran's Guide to Sound on the Set.
"We do not come to the project with a preconceived ideology; we come to the project to discover, to learn, to interpret."Mark Ulano & Patrushkha Mierzwa

Directors and producers who changed cinema didn't just shoot better images. They learned to listen differently and to build the set, direct actors and make narrative decisions starting from sound.
This masterclass is designed for those who make creative decisions on set or in development — directors, filmmakers, producers and screenwriters — who want to understand how sound can become an active ally of storytelling, not a technical problem to delegate in post.
No audio technical knowledge required: every hour of this masterclass is designed to raise the level of your creative work and the quality of the final product.
It is an immersion in method, with two professionals who built the sound of the greatest films in history alongside Scorsese, Tarantino, Altman — and who now share what they truly know: how production sound becomes a tool of direction, narrative and creative power on set.

The venue
Percettiva is an artistic residency active in the field of culture and professional training. The venue is located in Sardinia, in a natural setting that fosters concentration, immersion and exchange.
The Sound as Storytelling masterclasses take place in this space: not a conference room, not a hotel — a place of work and encounter, where participants live side by side with the instructors for the entire duration of the programme.
Accommodation, meals and transfer are included in the fee precisely to eliminate any distance between the time of the masterclass and the time of life: here you work, eat, sleep, exchange ideas.
In collaboration with the Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission.
